Observations, musings and rubbish from the mind of an IVO (International Voice Over)

SABB

SABB: this is something I did quite a lot when I was based in Dubai and working with UAE and Saudi clients some years ago. The Saudi British Bank as it was first named, merged with the Alawwal Bank, making it one of the largest Saudi Banks with, as of March 2021, over eighty branches across Saudi Arabia. To voice an “explainer” such as this, I have to walk a fine line between... View Article

Rolex

ROLEX: a nice, thirty-second online commercial for the famous watch brand, voiced some years ago and probably on the web for a few months at the time of the promotion. I cannot remember how this project came about. Such is the nature of being a voice-over! Occasionally, I receive an email completely out-of-the-blue asking me to audition part of a script – and then hear nothing. Other times, it turns... View Article

Viduate Loading Systems

Sometimes, I get to voice something quite technological but which looks and ‘feels’ almost beautiful when viewing the footage – even though I don’t usually get to see the vision before (and, mostly, after) I’ve supplied the audio! Here’s another classic example. I wasn’t really sure what this script was all about, apart from the fact that it was talking about ’safety’. When I saw the finished product, it all came together. Again, lovely footage, beautiful backing... View Article

Crafty Games: Buru

Quite frequently, I get to voice what’s known as an “Explainer”, which is me explaining something to an often specific potential audience by way of a video clip, posted on a client’s website, YouTube and other social media platforms. This is me ‘explaining’ how a new game, about to be launched, not only works but the ethos and origins behind it. Unusually perhaps, this is a board game as opposed... View Article

Klaus: Complexity Filter

This is a pun-filled piece relating to something called a “Complexity Filter”. Quite often, I have no idea as to what the product or service I’m voicing about is, well, actually “about”! This is one such example. However, watching (and listening to) the 1.26-minute video, to me, it’s a kind of “ah, so that’s what this is about”, an almost revelatory moment! Take a look and see if you can... View Article

Bespoke Furniture – ROBOS

Really nice video depicting a super usable online contract furniture catalogue for a bespoke series of cottages and more in the Netherlands. Lovely graphics – and a 4.8 star rating!

YES!Delft

Video for a tech company which – as the explainer goes – provides a crucial contribution to the society and economy, turning promising ideas and teams into solid startups. They have an ecosystem of experts, mentors, corporate partners, and investors with some unique programs, geared to “building tomorrow’s leading firms”

Pun-Filled EU Piece

A pun-filled little piece I voiced for a European client. More often than not, I don’t get to see what I’ve put my voice to. In this instance, the client was gracious and sent me the link. I never really know what half the things I voice are going to be about before I see the script – often as the session begins – or whether they’re going to be... View Article

Game Voiceover Harry Potter Wizarding Quiz

I play the role of the “GameMaster” in this funky hit-the-button-to-answer-first type game, sold around the world. I didn’t want to sound like Leslie Philips (UK actor who was the voice of the “Sorting Hat” in the Harry Potter movies), or Dumbledore (either the Richard Harris or Michael Gambon version). So I came up with something approximating both combined with a bit of a ‘wizardry-acting’ thing thrown in – a... View Article
